Intra dermal route of administration of rabies Vaccine was recently started in Kolkata. IDRV is ideally suited for centers receiving large number of patients due to the visible savings in vaccine usage. Patients are also benefited as IDRV is safe and efficacious and the number of visits is reduced to four if the updated Thai regimen is used. APCRI will organize a Workshop on Rabies Immune globulins in March. Guidelines on RIG administration will be published after the workshop and this should hopefully facilitate increased awareness among the medical community about the importance of RIGs in Post Exposure Prophylaxis. The IAP-APCRI-RIA Core committee meeting held in October was an endeavour to highlight the burden of Rabies in children in our country. The importance of pre exposure prophylaxis in children was emphasized by APCRI members. I would like to reiterate the importance of control of Rabies in the reservoir of infection i.e., dogs. Unless this is done, we cannot eradicate rabies from our country. APCRICON 2008 will be held at Lucknow. I request all members and others working in the field of Rabies to attend the Conference, and to present scientific papers at the Conference. I also request the scientific community to send articles and news items to the Editor for publication in the APCRI Journal and the Newsletter. With best wishes.
