Dear Members, I wish every one of you a happy & prosperous New Year. I am happy and proud to present the secretary General's report for the period July 2007 to December, 2007. The 9th APCRICON 2007 was organized by Dr G Sampath which was held at Hyderabad from 6-8, July, 2007. The 16th Executive committee meeting & the 7th Annual General Body meeting was also held at Hyderabad during these dates. I on behalf of all EC members & members of APCRI wish to congratulate Dr G Sampath & his team for organizing an excellent conference and for all the hospitality. The Inaugural World Rabies Day was held on 8th September, 2007 at various places across the country by our members. They had received the World Rabies Day banner from APCRI Hqrs & other support from corp orates locally. In this regard, I thank all the members who organized the World Rabies Day & the all the corp orates who supported our members in this activity. Indian Academy of Paediatrics (lAP) had organized a meeting of core committee members from APCRI, Rabies in Asia-India Chapter & from lAP which was held at National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore on 12.10.2007. I on behalf of the core team presented the draft protocol on "Guidelines for Rabies Prophylaxis in Children" to the members present with Dr S N Madhusudana as Chairperson. The office bearers of Indian Academy of Paediatrics (lAP) have requested both Rabies in Asia-India Chapter & APCRI to make suitable changes to the protocol & submit to lAP for considering rabies vaccine as one of the additional vaccine to be administered to children as pre exposure vaccination. The 17th Executive committee meeting was held at Bangalore with new office bearers on 12.10.2007. The various activities to be conducted in future were discussed. One of the important activities planned is to organize a "National workshop on Rabies Immunoglobulin administration" at KIMS, Bangalore during March, 2008. I congratulate National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), Government of India for bringing out a booklet on "National Guidelines for Rabies Prophylaxis and Intra- dermal Administration of Cell Culture Rabies Vaccines". I thank the human rabies vaccine manufacturers for bringing out the rabies vaccines for 10 use & also request others to follow, so that all the bite victims visiting Government hospitals across the country should receive complete course of rabies vaccination. The 10th Annual National conference of APCRI (APCRICON 2008) will be held at Lucknow during July, 2008. For more information visit: www.apcri.org
